The Harvest SmartPReP2 Platelet Concentrate System consists of a microprocessor-controlled, centrifuge with automated decanting capability and a dual chamber sterile processing disposable. The system technology provides a reproducible process for PRP preparation. During processing, anticoagulated whole blood is automatically separated into red blood cells and plasma. The plasma along with the upper portion of the buffy coat and some red blood cells are automatically decanted into the second chamber of the process disposable.
The platelets are then separated from the plasma, producing platelet poor plasma (PPP) and a platelet concentrated. The platelet rich plasma may improve the handling characteristics of the bone graft material, facilitates fixation of the bone graft material to the intended surgical site and may help to optimize conditions for bone healing.
